Latina therapist wearing sequin blazer and red lipstick under a rainbow at the Grove Park Inn Asheville, NC

Hi! I’m Paulina!

I'm an English and Spanish-speaking Queer Mexican immigrant who grew up in the South East (including the Deep South) that calls the mountains of North Carolina home. I constantly find myself both navigating and reveling in the delicate balance between life's breathtaking beauty and challenges. I mean, it’s kind of a dumpster fire out here sometimes, amiright?! However, there is so. much. sweetness. I also believe that my liberation is bound with yours. I’m trying to get free, how about you?

Having grown up in the South East with the identities I hold, I know what it's like to navigate relationships, friend groups, schools, jobs, etc., and feel like you have to prove yourself and give twice as much. I also know how feeling like "too much" here but "not enough" there can cause an internal spiral of inadequacy, confusion, guilt, and shame, leading to self-doubt and decisions that don't serve you. Gah! It's exhausting! Luckily, through my own self-work and therapy, I've re-learned to trust myself and radically love myself. I work with people who want to explore and maybe even deconstruct some of the "rules" society has forced on us. Some rules might fit, and some might feel limiting, if not straight-up oppressive.

In terms of licenses, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Work Associate (LCSWA) and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist Associate (LCASA), and I can work with people all across North Carolina. Professionally, I come with a decade of equity and inclusion work experience, a non-profit and local government background, and a deep understanding of organizations and broader systems. Also, I’m an eclectic therapist, which means I use different therapies to address your specific needs. The modalities I pull from the most are Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Somatic Experiencing (SE). My approach is trauma-informed, person-centered, attachment-based, strength-based, intersectional, and feminist. Those are a lot of words that equate to yes, I can help. :) Have any questions? Feel free to ask!

I love clinical work because we deserve a space to heal in a world that doesn’t always prioritize our well-being. Being able to create healing spaces is such a privilege.
